Large-scale drug trafficker Janith Madhusanka, alias ‘Podi Lassie’, was brought back to Sri Lanka early this morning (27) from India.
He was escorted out of the Katunayake International Airport under tight security, accompanied by officials from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).
Police Media Spokesman, ASP F.U. Wootler, stated that ‘Podi Lassie’ was wanted by the Police in connection with several murders in the Southern Province and for violating bail conditions.
He further said that the suspect will be handed over to the Galle Division Criminal Investigation Department for further investigations.
On December 09, 2025, “Podi Lassie” was released on bail by the Balapitiya Magistrate’s Court under strict conditions.
However, the Sri Lanka Police had uncovered that “Podi Lassie” had fled the country in violation of the bail conditions imposed on him and that he was hiding in India.
Thereafter, the Acting IGP directly shared information with the Indian Police, leading to his arrest, while measures were taken for his swift extradition. (Newswire)
