The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) has decided to withdraw from hospital clinic activities from next Monday (02 March).
The GMOA said this decision was taken because the government did not provide a proper response to the demands to establish a special service for doctors.
The Secretary of the Association, Prabath Aththanayake, stated that the 50 clinics currently operating and the mobile clinic systems are projects based on political objectives.
He further said that in the background of a shortage of staff to maintain the country’s primary health service, doctors have decided not to support such projects.
The Secretary also stated that since the subject minister or government authorities have not made a reasonable intervention regarding the problems faced by doctors, the current trade union action could escalate into a full strike. (Newswire)
