The Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAASL) has announced the implementation of a special operational plan to facilitate flights and passengers departing from and arriving in Sri Lanka, following the escalating war situation in parts of the Middle East and surrounding regions.

Due to the closure of airspace in several affected countries, disruptions have arisen impacting international flight operations. The special program is being carried out under the leadership of Director General and Chief Executive Officer Captain Daminda Rambukwella.

In light of the situation, SriLankan Airlines and FitsAir have decided to temporarily suspend flights to destinations located in the affected countries and those requiring the use of the closed airspace.

Passengers planning to travel to these destinations are strongly advised to contact their travel agents or respective airlines before proceeding to the airport to obtain the latest updates regarding their flights.

Under the guidance of the Minister, Deputy Minister, and Secretary of the Ministry of Ports and Civil Aviation, CAASL has coordinated with relevant stakeholders to formulate an emergency action plan outlining the necessary steps to address the evolving situation.

Additionally, the authority stated that the Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport has been prepared to handle any required flight diversions if necessary. (NewsWire)
