Former Director of the State Intelligence Service, retired Major General Suresh Sallay, has been granted permission to be detained for 90 days for questioning in connection with ongoing investigations into the 2019 Easter Sunday terror attacks.
Sallay was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) as part of continuing probes into the coordinated bombings that killed more than 260 people and injured hundreds across Sri Lanka on April 21, 2019.
Authorities said the 90-day detention will allow investigators to question the former intelligence chief under provisions of the law applicable to national security investigations.
The Easter Sunday attacks targeted churches and luxury hotels and remain one of the deadliest terror incidents in Sri Lanka’s history. Multiple investigations and related legal proceedings are continuing.
Further developments are expected as inquiries proceed. (Newswire)
