Three U.S. Air Force F-15 fighter jets were mistakenly shot down by Kuwaiti air defenses in an apparent friendly fire incident over Kuwait, U.S. Central Command said Monday.

The aircraft were flying in support of ongoing U.S.-Israeli military operations linked to hostilities with Iran when they were brought down, officials said in a statement.

All six crew members aboard the three jets ejected safely and were recovered, the statement said. Their conditions were not immediately disclosed, but officials said they were safe.

Kuwaiti authorities acknowledged the incident, which occurred amid heightened regional tensions and active air defense operations. An investigation has been launched to determine how the aircraft were misidentified. (Newswire)
