Central Expressway: Kurunegala – Dambulla stretch to be expedited

The Cabinet of Ministers has granted approval to expedite the construction of the Central Expressway from Kurunegala to Dambulla.

According to the government, Stage Four of the project covers 58.6 kilometres between Kurunegala and Dambulla. 

Approval for land acquisition was granted in 2025, and physical progress has already reached 73.37 per cent.

To accelerate construction, the Cabinet has authorized the preparation of the remaining land acquisition proposals. 

In addition, the National Building Research Organization will conduct geo‑technical investigations to assess slope stability and landslide risks, while the Sri Lanka Land Development Corporation will prepare hydrological designs, flood risk assessments, and stormwater management plans. (Newswire)
