The Australian High Commission in Colombo has dismissed reports claiming that Sri Lanka has been classified as a high-risk travel destination for Australians.
In a statement, the High Commission said Australia’s official travel advice level for Sri Lanka has not changed despite misleading messages circulating online.
The mission urged Australians to rely on the official Smartraveller website for accurate and up-to-date travel advice.
“If it’s not on Smartraveller, Aussies know it’s not fair dinkum travel advice,” the High Commission said, adding that some messages circulating on social media had incorrectly suggested changes to Australia’s travel advisory for Sri Lanka.
The High Commission reiterated that travellers should always refer to Smartraveller for the latest travel guidance. (Newswire)
