Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath has reaffirmed that safeguarding Sri Lankan citizens abroad is a top priority, following talks with Israeli Foreign Minister Gidon Saar.

In a post on ‘X’, Minister Herath said he had received assurances on the safety of more than 29,000 Sri Lankans currently living in Israel.

During a telephone conversation, the two ministers also discussed the urgent need to pursue regional peace through diplomatic channels.

The Foreign Minister stressed that Sri Lanka remains committed to protecting its nationals overseas while continuing to call for stability in the Middle East through dialogue and diplomacy.

This engagement comes as Sri Lanka closely monitors developments in Israel to ensure the well‑being of its citizens. (Newswire)
