Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake says no civilian should die in wars, stressing that every life is as precious as one’s own.

“We jealously guard our non-aligned policy while ensuring that humanitarian values and the saving of lives remain our top priority,” the President stated in a post on ‘X’.

Highlighting the urgent need for peace, he warned of the risk of a severe global economic crisis, with societies worldwide facing serious and complex challenges.

“We call upon all parties to demonstrate a firm commitment to peace. As a state, Sri Lanka stands ready to support every step toward ending hostilities. All our actions are aimed at saving lives and ensuring that humanity prevails,” President Dissanayake added.

His remarks come after Sri Lanka assisted in rescuing the lives of personnel on board the Iranian vessel IRIS Dena, which was struck by a US Submarine off the Southern Coast of Sri Lanka, and further moves to assist the second Iranian Vessel IRIS Bushehr to dock at the Trincomalee Port. (Newswire)
