Australia has directed the dependants of its officials posted to the United Arab Emirates to leave the country due to the deteriorating security situation in the region.

Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong said the decision was taken as a precaution amid rising tensions linked to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

“Our travel advice has been updated to reflect that direction. We continue to advise Australians not to travel to the UAE,” Wong said in a statement posted on social media.

Australia has also updated its travel advisory warning citizens against travelling to the UAE as security concerns grow across the Gulf region.

The move comes as missile and drone attacks linked to the conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel have heightened tensions and disrupted airspace in several Gulf countries. (Newswire)
