“31% of world oil, tonnes of money”: US Senator defends war

US Senator Lindsey Graham has suggested that the ongoing war against Iran could bring economic gains by giving control over major global oil reserves.

In an interview with Fox News, the veteran Republican senator said that if Iran’s government collapses, the United States could benefit from access to the country’s oil resources.

“When this regime goes down, we are going to have a new Middle East, and we are going to make a tonne of money,” Graham said.

He also claimed that Iran and Venezuela together hold about 31 percent of the world’s known oil reserves, suggesting that partnerships involving those resources would be a major strategic advantage for the United States.

Iran rejected the remarks, with Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei accusing the United States of attempting to divide the country and seize its oil wealth. (Newswire)
