
Police have arrested the second gunman linked to the shooting incident in Jinthupitiya that left one person dead and two children injured.
According to the Sri Lanka Police, the shooting took place in the Jinthupitiya area within the Modara Police Division on Jan. 16, 2026.
Investigations were launched by the Colombo Central Crimes Division under the instructions of Deputy Inspector General of Police for Colombo Nishantha Soysa.
Acting on information that one of the suspects involved in the shooting was in Udawalawa, police officers arrested the 26-year-old suspect on March 9. The suspect is a resident of Mirisyaya, Kolombage Ara.
During questioning, police recovered two mobile phones allegedly used by the suspect in connection with the crime. The suspect and the seized items were handed over to the Modara Police for further investigations.
Police said the other gunman involved in the incident had already been arrested on March 3 by the Colombo Crimes Division in the Grandpass Police area with 11 grams and 830 milligrams of the drug ‘Ice’.
He was produced before the Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court today and remanded in custody. (Newswire)
