Mojtaba Khamenei is “safe and sound” despite reports he was injured during recent hostilities, according to a statement by a government adviser Yousef Pezeshkian.
Yousef Pezeshkian, the son of Masoud Pezeshkian, said in a message posted on his Telegram channel that he had checked with contacts about reports of injuries to the new leader.
“I heard news that Mr. Mojtaba Khamenei had been injured. I asked some friends who had connections. They told me that, thank God, he is safe and sound,” Pezeshkian wrote.
State television had earlier described the 56-year-old leader as a “wounded veteran of the Ramadan war,” though it did not specify the nature of the injury.
The comments come amid speculation about Khamenei’s health and whereabouts after he succeeded his father, Ali Khamenei, three days ago.
According to a report by The New York Times, Khamenei was injured on the opening day of attacks on Iran by the United States and Israel, citing Iranian and Israeli officials who spoke on condition of anonymity. (NewsWire)
