Government Spokesman and Minister Nalinda Jayatissa has rejected claims made by former Minister Wimal Weerawansa that former State Intelligence Service Director Suresh Salley is being ill-treated while in the custody of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
Responding to the allegations, Jayatissa said that to his knowledge no complaint has been received regarding such conditions at the CID.
Weerawansa had earlier claimed that Salley was being forced to sleep on newspapers, that rats were running over him and that poor sanitation conditions had caused him severe discomfort while being detained for questioning.
However, Jayatissa said that many suspects had previously been taken to the CID’s fourth floor for questioning and none had made complaints about such conditions.
He added that if such allegations have been made, the CID could look into the matter and conduct an investigation if necessary.
The Minister also said that the CID had carried out investigations over a long period before taking action based on evidence. (Newswire)
