
Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne has endorsed the certificates for the Poisons, Opium and Dangerous Drugs (Amendment) Bill and the Judicature (Amendment) Bill.
The two bills were passed by Parliament of Sri Lanka on Feb. 19.
The amendments introduce new legal provisions and procedures to strengthen the existing legal framework governing the control of trafficking and production of dangerous drugs, particularly in international maritime zones.
With the Speaker’s endorsement, the Poisons, Opium and Dangerous Drugs (Amendment) Bill comes into force as the Poisons, Opium and Dangerous Drugs (Amendment) Act, No. 7 of 2026, while the Judicature (Amendment) Bill becomes the Judicature (Amendment) Act, No. 8 of 2026. (Newswire)
