Airlines worldwide are raising ticket prices and introducing fuel surcharges as jet fuel costs surge following escalating tensions in the Middle East.
The spike in oil prices linked to the ongoing conflict in the region has significantly increased aviation fuel costs, one of the largest operating expenses for airlines.
Several carriers have already responded. India’s Air India and IndiGo have introduced fuel surcharges on domestic and international flights, while other airlines across Asia and Europe are reviewing fares and operational costs.
According to aviation industry monitors, jet fuel prices in the region have surged sharply in recent weeks as geopolitical tensions disrupt energy markets.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka is also likely to see an increase in airfares. A spokesman from the Civil Aviation Ministry said that if aviation fuel prices continue to rise, ticket prices are also likely to increase. (Newswire)
