The World Assembly of Muslim Youth (WAMY) has donated 100,000 Saudi riyals (about $26,000) to support the government’s “Rebuilding Sri Lanka” programme aimed at assisting reconstruction efforts following the Ditwah Cyclone.

Sri Lanka’s ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Ameer Ajwad, visited the organisation’s headquarters in Riyadh and met with its Secretary-General, Salih bin Ibrahim Babaer, to convey appreciation for the contribution made in response to an appeal by the Sri Lankan Embassy.

The ambassador also thanked the organisation for its continued engagement with Sri Lanka through humanitarian, educational and community development initiatives supporting vulnerable communities.

Founded in 1972 and headquartered in Riyadh, the organisation operates as a global platform for youth empowerment, providing educational opportunities, leadership training and social development programmes.

It also promotes initiatives encouraging moderation, tolerance and peaceful coexistence while supporting youth participation in social and development activities. The organisation is affiliated with United Nations non-governmental organisations. (NewsWire)
