Hamas has urged Iran to stop attacking neighbouring Gulf countries while expressing support for Tehran’s right to defend itself in the ongoing regional conflict.
In a statement, the Palestinian group called on Iran to avoid targeting nearby states despite backing its response to military actions by the United States and Israel. Hamas said Iran has the right to respond to what it described as aggression but should refrain from striking neighbouring countries.
The appeal is considered unusual because Iran has long been a key ally and supporter of Hamas. The group also called on regional and international actors to take steps to end the widening conflict in the Middle East.
The statement comes amid escalating tensions in the region after the conflict between Iran, the United States and Israel expanded, with Iran launching missile and drone strikes targeting several Gulf countries.
The war has triggered attacks across multiple fronts in the Middle East and raised fears of further regional escalation, with several countries urging restraint and diplomatic efforts to halt the fighting. (NewsWire)
