President Anura Kumara Dissanayake chaired a special discussion today (15) to review measures required to address disruptions to global energy supply networks caused by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
During the meeting, attention was drawn to disruptions affecting coal, gas, and oil supply chains, and officials reviewed steps already taken to ensure an uninterrupted fuel supply in Sri Lanka as well as possible alternative measures to manage the situation.
The President noted that the crisis is affecting many countries worldwide and stressed that proper planning and the use of alternative approaches could minimise the impact on the national economy.
He highlighted the importance of mechanisms such as the digital fuel quota system and the possibility of introducing work-from-home arrangements to reduce fuel consumption.
Officials also discussed issues faced by individuals who have not yet registered under the digital quota system and possible solutions to address those difficulties.
The meeting further focused on coordinating responses with both the public and private sectors to address potential challenges faced by industries due to the evolving situation.
President Dissanayake also instructed officials to continuously monitor developments related to the Middle East conflict and remain prepared with alternative measures to mitigate any economic impact on the country.
Several ministers, senior government officials, and representatives from key energy and financial institutions participated in the discussion. (NewsWire)
