Afternoon showers are expected in some parts of Sri Lanka today, while mainly dry weather will prevail elsewhere on the island, according to the Department of Meteorology.
As such, showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the Central, Sabaragamuwa, Southern and Uva provinces after 2.00 pm.
The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers are likely at a few places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Hambantota via Galle during the evening or night.
Winds will be easterly or variable in direction. Wind speed will be (20-30) kmph.
The sea areas around the island will be slight.
Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers. (Newswire)
