A large-scale operation targeting an organised online scam network has led to the arrest of 134 foreign nationals in Anuradhapura and Mihintale.
The raid was carried out jointly by Sri Lanka Army intelligence units and the Department of Immigration and Emigration, following intelligence received by authorities. Officials conducted coordinated inspections at five lodging facilities in the two areas, where the suspects had been staying.
Among those arrested were 126 Chinese nationals, four Myanmar nationals and four Taiwanese nationals, who are alleged to have been involved in online fraud activities operating from the locations.
Authorities also seized a large number of laptops, mobile phones and other technical equipment believed to have been used in the operation.
The arrested individuals, along with the seized items, have been handed over for further investigations, with the Department of Immigration and Emigration. Further investigations are underway. (Newswire)
