Govt reveals why Wednesday was declared a holiday

Cabinet Media Spokesman, Minister Nalinda Jayatissa, has clarified that Wednesday has been designated as a holiday to ensure continuity of government services.

Addressing the post-Cabinet media briefing held today (17), he explained that when holidays fall on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, office work is disrupted for several consecutive days.

He said that, as such, by shifting the holiday to Wednesday, government operations can continue without prolonged interruptions.

Minister Jayatissa further said that the decision was taken to maintain public service delivery without completely closing government offices, ensuring that essential functions remain active throughout the week.

His comments come in response to inquiries by journalists on the government’s decision to declare Wednesday a government holiday for the state sector in view of the current fuel supply issue as a result of the conflict in the Middle East region. (Newswire)
