The Department of Motor Traffic has requested vehicle owners without number plates to present valid documents when obtaining fuel, as authorities move to issue fuel based on the last digit of the vehicle number plate.
In a statement, the department said number plates had not been issued recently due to procurement-related delays, leading some vehicle owners to use various types of temporary or unofficial plates.
As a result, to verify vehicle identity, owners are requested to present one of the following documents when required: the revenue licence, certificate of registration, insurance certificate, or emission test certificate.
The move comes as the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation prepares to release fuel based on vehicle number plate digits from tomorrow. (Newswire)
