
Two Sri Lankan passengers were arrested early this morning (18) at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake while attempting to smuggle a stock of Kush narcotics valued at Rs. 105.22 million.
The arrests were made by officers of the Airport Police Narcotics Division. The suspects include a 20‑year‑old businessman from Hakmana and a 22‑year‑old female nursing student from a private university in Agunakolapelessa.
Police said the duo had arrived at Katunayake at 1.00 a.m. today from Bangkok, Thailand, aboard Thai Airways flight TG‑307.
Their luggage contained eight parcels of Kush narcotics, weighing 10 kilograms and 552 grams, concealed in false bottoms.
The suspects were produced before the Negombo Magistrate’s Court today, where detention orders were obtained. Further investigations are underway. (Newswire)
