Showers or thundershowers will occur in most parts of Sri Lanka after 1.00 pm today, according to the Department of Meteorology.

Fairly heavy showers exceeding 50 mm are expected in parts of the Central, Sabaragamuwa, and Uva provinces, as well as in the Ampara district. Showers may also occur in the Northern and Eastern provinces in the morning.

Misty conditions are expected in parts of the Central, Sabaragamuwa, and Western provinces, and in the Galle and Matara districts, in the morning.

The public is requested to take appropriate precautions to minimise damage from temporary, localised strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Mathara via Mannar, Kankasanthurai, Trincomalee, Batticaloa and Hambantota.

Winds will be South-easterly or variable in direction. Wind speed will be 20-30 kmph.

Sea conditions around the island will be slight. Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers. (Newswire)
