A 53‑year‑old resident of Brandiyawatta, Wellampitiya, has been arrested following a raid that uncovered 16 motorcycle engines illegally brought into the country without paying customs duty.
According to the Police, the operation was carried out on Thursday (19) by officers of the Nugegoda Division Criminal Investigation Unit, acting on intelligence received by the Western Province Intelligence Division.
The suspect had allegedly stored the engines with the intention of assembling them later.
He was taken into custody and presented to the Wellampitiya Police Station. Further investigations are underway. (Newswire)
