
A stock of Kush narcotics valued at Rs. 51.4 million was seized at the Katunayake Airport today (20) by officers of the Police Narcotics Division.
According to the Lankadeepa newspaper, the drugs were discovered while being taken out of the airport by a Sri Lankan passenger.
The suspect, a 32‑year‑old businessman from Muttur, had purchased the narcotics in Bangkok, Thailand, before transporting them to Bangalore, India. He then arrived in Sri Lanka at 12.30 am today.
Police said the suspect had concealed the narcotics in two pieces of luggage fitted with false bottoms. The drugs were packed into four parcels, weighing a total of 5.140 kilos.
The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue. (Newswire)
