
A historic day unfolded in Sri Lanka school cricket as St. Servatius’ College, Matara and Kingswood College, Kandy ended decades-long waits to secure memorable Big Match victories.
In Matara, St. Servatius’ College defeated St. Thomas’ College to win the Battle of the Blues, ending a 55-year drought. The victory marked a special moment for the school, with Sri Lanka legends including Sanath Jayasuriya, Ruchira Palliyaguruge, and Kasun Ranjitha present to witness the achievement.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Jayasuriya reflected on the significance of the win, stating, “I tried for five years but couldn’t get it done… proud and happy this team achieved it in our lifetime.”
The Servatius’ win was boosted by Sri Lanka Under-19 opener Viran Chamuditha, who featured in the historic encounter.
Meanwhile in Kandy, Kingswood College secured a dominant win over Dharmaraja College, ending a 68-year wait in their Big Match.
Leading the charge was Sri Lanka Under-19 batter Kavija Gamage, who produced a remarkable all-round performance. He scored centuries in both innings and claimed eight wickets across the match, playing a decisive role in Kingswood’s triumph.
Kingswood posted 226 in their first innings and declared at 248/7 in the second, while Dharmaraja were bowled out for 160 and 166.
