Container haulage charges will be increased by 20 percent from midnight today (22) in response to the recent fuel price hike, the Container Transport Owners’ Association announced.
The association said the increase was unavoidable due to rising operational costs following the sharp surge in fuel prices, which have impacted the transport sector nationwide.
Meanwhile, private bus operators warned that services could be disrupted later today if a decision on a fare revision is not announced in time.
Private bus owners said buses will be withdrawn from service after 6.00 pm today (22) if the National Transport Commission fails to approve a fare hike by 5.00 pm.
They noted that the current fares are no longer sustainable given the increase in fuel costs, and called on authorities to provide an immediate solution to avoid inconvenience to commuters.
The developments come amid growing pressure on the transport sector following. (Newswire)
