Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has formally appealed to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to condemn what it describes as Iran’s indiscriminate missile attacks targeting Israeli civilians, particularly children.
In a letter dated March 23, 2026, Deputy Director General for UN and International Organizations Nina Ben‑Ami outlined a series of recent incidents in which Iranian ballistic missiles, including cluster munitions, struck residential areas across Israel.
“So far, 18 children and infants have been wounded by Iranian missiles. A 5-year-old girl is in critical condition. A 10-year-old and a 12-year-old were severely injured. Three siblings, aged 13, 15, and 16, were killed,” the letter said.
Stressing not only the physical casualties but also the psychological toll on Israeli children living under repeated missile fire, the Israeli Foreign Ministry urged UNICEF to publicly denounce Iran’s actions and to defend the rights and safety of children affected by the conflict.
War erupted on February 28, 2026, when the United States and Israel launched surprise airstrikes on multiple sites across Iran, killing Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and several senior officials. Iran retaliated with missile and drone strikes against Israel, U.S. bases, and allied countries in the Middle East. (Newswire)
