CID arrests suspect for manipulating fuel QR codes

A person was taken into custody by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Nittambuwa for allegedly overriding a motor vehicle’s fuel QR code and generating a new code to obtain fuel illegally.

According to information received via hotline 1919, the Ministry of Digital Economy had filed a complaint with the Criminal Investigation Department. Following this, the Cybercrime Investigation Unit under the CID conducted inquiries into the suspect’s activities.

Investigating officers said the suspect is a resident of Piliyandala. Inquiries are also ongoing into individuals who issued fuel using the manipulated QR code.

The CID stated that special investigations are being carried out against those who override fuel QR codes. (NewsWire)
