Sri Lanka Railways is set to launch a smart ticketing pilot project in April under the CSRP initiative, aiming to replace traditional paper tickets with a new digital ticketing system across the country.

The pilot program will begin on the Kelani Valley line, covering Narahenpita, Nugegoda, Makumbura, Homagama and Padukka railway stations over several days in April.

The new system will include modern ticket validation equipment and is expected to improve efficiency and passenger convenience. Following the pilot phase, authorities plan to expand the system to all stations along the Kelani Valley line before rolling it out to other railway routes islandwide.

Officials also noted that additional passenger-friendly features will be introduced, with plans to complete the project within this year. (Newswire)
