Minister of industry and entrepreneurship development Sunil Handunnetti says new legislation will be drafted soon to take action against those selling imported goods at lower prices.
He made the statement during a special inspection tour of the Nalanda and Kaludewala industrial zones in Matale district.
The minister urged the public to report cases where imported goods are sold at prices lower than locally produced items. Shoes, tiles, lighters, firewood boxes, and many other products are being sold domestically at prices below those of locally manufactured goods.
Handunnetti emphasised that such items may have entered the country illegally and that reporting these cases properly is the responsibility of local manufacturers. He further noted that this is a process the government alone cannot control. (NewsWire)
