Police have launched an investigation into a video circulating on social media showing a group of school students assaulting another student in the Hatton area.
Initial inquiries have revealed that the incident occurred around 21 days ago, in early March.
According to police, the assault stemmed from a school disciplinary matter. The victim had reportedly informed a class teacher that another student was smoking, which is believed to have triggered the attack. Two other students had allegedly joined in the assault in retaliation.
No complaint had initially been lodged, as the school principal had intervened and attempted to resolve the issue by advising both parties.
However, after the video surfaced on social media, the victim and his mother lodged a complaint with the police on March 28, citing distress caused by the incident.
The injured student has been referred to a Judicial Medical Officer for examination.
Police have recorded statements from three students connected to the assault and the release of the video.
The suspects, all aged 16, are residents of Hatton and Dickoya. Further investigations are ongoing by Hatton Police.
