The Gampaha Magistrate’s Court has ruled that the Frontline Socialist Party (FSP) is entitled to continue occupying its headquarters located at Salmal Uyana along Kirindiwela Road in Yakkala.
The case was filed following an incident on September 2, 2025, when a group allegedly linked to the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) entered the premises and took control of the office.
Following the incident, the Administrative Secretary of the Frontline Socialist Party, along with affiliated trade unions operating from the premises, filed a private plaint under Section 66 of the Primary Courts Procedure Act seeking legal confirmation of possession of the property.
The petition named 20 respondents, including the General Secretary of the JVP.
At the initial stage, the court issued an interim order directing that custody of the property be handed over temporarily to the police and ordered those occupying the premises to vacate.
Following months of hearings, Gampaha Additional Magistrate Shilani Perera today ruled that the possession of the property legally belongs to the Frontline Socialist Party and its affiliated trade unions.
The court further held that the removal of Frontline Socialist Party members from the premises on September 2, 2025 was unlawful and ordered that possession of the property be handed back to the Frontline Socialist Party and its affiliated trade unions.
The Frontline Socialist Party had sought legal relief after alleging that attempts were made to forcibly seize the premises last year. (Newswire)
