Pakistan fast bowler Naseem Shah has reportedly been handed what is believed to be the largest fine in Pakistan cricket history after a deleted social media post from his account appeared to criticise Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
According to reports, Naseem Shah was fined PKR 20 million (approximately USD 72,000), an amount equivalent to nearly eight months of his central contract salary.
The controversial post was deleted shortly after it was published. Naseem Shah later claimed that his social media account had been hacked and that he was not responsible for the tweet.
Despite the explanation, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) proceeded with disciplinary action. Reports also said that the PCB has banned Naseem Shah’s social media advisor from any involvement in cricket-related activities.
The fine is believed to be the largest ever imposed on a Pakistan cricketer according to ESPN Cricinfo.
Naseem Shah is one of Pakistan’s leading fast bowlers and holds a central contract with the PCB, making the incident one of the most high-profile disciplinary actions involving a Pakistan international cricketer in recent years. (Newswire)
