Showers expected in several parts of the country over the next few days are likely to bring some relief from the prevailing hot weather, the Department of Meteorology Sri Lanka said.

In its latest forecast issued at 4.00 p.m. today, the department said atmospheric conditions will be favorable for afternoon thundershowers in most parts of the island from tomorrow (02).

Showers or thundershowers are expected at several places in the Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Uva, North-Western and North-Central provinces after 2.00 p.m. tomorrow.

Fairly heavy rainfall above 50 mm is also likely at some places in the Western, Central and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Kurunegala district.

A few showers may also occur in the morning in the Ampara, Batticaloa and Hambantota districts, while misty conditions are expected in parts of Central, Sabaragamuwa and Uva provinces during early morning hours.

The department requested the public to take precautions against temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

The expected rainfall comes after several weeks of hot and humid conditions across the island, with showers likely to provide some relief from the prevailing heat. (Newswire)
