Atmospheric conditions will be favourable for afternoon thundershowers in most parts of Sri Lanka today, according to the Department of Meteorology.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in most parts of the island after 2.00 pm, with fairly heavy falls above 75 mm likely at some places in the Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa, Uva, North-central and Eastern provinces.

Showers may occur in the Eastern province and in the Hambantota district in the morning.

Misty conditions can be expected at some places in the Central, Sabaragamuwa, Uva and Northcentral provinces and in the Kurunegala and Vavuniya districts in the morning.

The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Hambantota to Trincomalee via Pottuvil and Batticaloa.

Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the other sea areas around the island during the evening or night.

Winds will be variable in direction. Wind speed will be 15-25 kmph.

The sea areas around the island will be slight. Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers. (Newswire)
