France’s President Emmanuel Macron has criticised United States President Donald Trump over his remarks on the ongoing Iran conflict, calling for a more serious and consistent approach to the war.
Speaking to journalists upon arrival in South Korea for a state visit, Macron said the situation required careful handling and warned against making contradictory statements.
“This is not a show. We are talking about war and peace and the lives of men and women,” Macron said.
“When you want to be serious you don’t say every day the opposite of what you said the day before,” he added, in an apparent reference to Trump’s recent comments.
Macron also suggested that leaders should avoid making frequent public remarks during such sensitive situations.
“And maybe you shouldn’t be speaking every day. You should just let things quieten down,” he said.
The comments come as the US-Israel conflict involving Iran enters its second month, with tensions remaining high across the Middle East.
France and several European countries have supported some US operations in the region but have so far resisted deeper involvement in the conflict. (Newswire)
