The Health Ministry has issued a set of guidelines for Avurudu games organised during the festive season to prevent accidents and serious medical conditions.

The guidelines were released by the Non-Communicable Diseases Unit of the Health Ministry, with special attention given to commonly held traditional games such as pillow fighting, breaking pots, village races, cycling, swimming, canoeing, lime-and-spoon races, climbing the greasy pole, tug-of-war and sack races.

These activities, while festive, carry risks due to the competitive nature of the events, which may lead to injuries or serious health complications.

The guidelines aim to ensure the safety and well-being of both participants and spectators during Avurudu celebrations. (NewsWire)
