Explosions were reported at Iran’s Lavan Island, a key crude oil export terminal in the Persian Gulf, less than a day after the United States and Iran agreed to a ceasefire.

Iranian media reported the blast on Wednesday morning, with regional outlets later confirming the incident.

According to Iran’s National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company, an oil refinery on Lavan Island was targeted in what it described as an “enemy attack.” The facility was struck at around 10:00 a.m. local time (0630 GMT).

The company, quoted by the Oil Ministry’s news outlet Shana, said there were no casualties reported from the incident.

Safety and firefighting teams were immediately deployed to contain the fire and secure the site, authorities said.

Lavan Island is one of Iran’s major crude oil export terminals and is located in the southern Persian Gulf, making it a strategically important energy facility.

The incident comes less than 24 hours after the United States and Iran agreed to a conditional ceasefire and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil shipping route. (Newswire)
