
A country without a developed public transport system cannot be considered a developed nation, Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya said today (09), as she launched the project to modernize the Colombo Fort Railway Station.
Speaking at the launch, PM Amarasuriya said that the government aims to build a sustainable and inclusive transport system that allows children, women, the elderly and persons with disabilities to access services conveniently.
The large-scale project to renovate the Colombo Fort Railway Station into an international-standard transport hub was officially launched today under the patronage of PM Harini Amarasuriya.
Implemented under the Ministry of Transport, Highways and Urban Development, the “Railway Efficiency Improvement Project” will be funded by the Asian Development Bank along with government allocations, with an investment exceeding Rs. 2,162 million.
The project is expected to be completed within 15 months and aims to improve services for hundreds of thousands of daily commuters using the country’s busiest railway station. (Newswire)
