A no-confidence motion against MP Kumara Jayakody was presented to Parliament today by Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Ajith P. Perera, citing alleged irregularities in coal procurement and indictments filed before the Colombo High Court.

Presenting the motion, Ajith P. Perera stated that Kumara Jayakody had failed to fulfil his fundamental duties in line with Article 28 of the Constitution, thereby violating his responsibilities.

He further alleged that Jayakody had failed to ensure the procurement of adequate and quality coal for the Lakvijaya Power Plant and had demonstrated serious negligence in carrying out those responsibilities.

The motion also cited that the MP had failed to carry out institutional management responsibilities and tasks related to minimizing technical losses assigned through the Extraordinary Gazette dated November 25.

In addition, the no-confidence motion highlighted that indictments had been filed against Jayakody before the Colombo High Court under the Bribery Act in relation to alleged corruption in procurement activities at Lanka Fertilizer Company.

Ajith P. Perera stated that these allegations indicate a betrayal of the public mandate and a serious violation of good governance principles, informing Parliament that a no-confidence motion had therefore been submitted against the MP. (Newswire)
