Sri Lanka fast bowler Nuwan Thushara has issued a letter of apology to Sri Lanka Cricket, expressing willingness to withdraw his legal action over the refusal to grant a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to participate in overseas franchise leagues, including the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL).

In an email addressed to Sri Lanka Cricket CEO Ashley de Silva, with copies to President Shammi Silva and another official, Thushara said it was never his intention to take the cricket board to court or place the organization in a difficult position.

“My sole intention throughout this process has been to seek fairness and justice, as I genuinely feel that I have been treated unfairly in this matter. The steps I initially considered were driven by a desire to have my concerns heard and addressed appropriately, rather than to create conflict or bring disrepute to the organization,” Thushara said in the letter.

The fast bowler also apologized for any inconvenience caused to Sri Lanka Cricket and its officials.

“I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience, misunderstanding, or distress that my actions may have caused to Sri Lanka Cricket and its officials,” he said.

Thushara further stated that he is willing to withdraw any legal action and seek an amicable resolution.

“With this in mind, I would like to express my willingness to withdraw any legal action and instead seek an amicable resolution to this matter. I remain hopeful that we can move forward in a positive and constructive manner,” he added.

Thushara had earlier filed a case in the Colombo District Court seeking an order directing Sri Lanka Cricket to issue a No Objection Certificate to enable his participation in overseas franchise leagues, including the IPL.

Sri Lanka Cricket had refused to grant the NOC citing failure to meet newly introduced fitness standards, prompting the fast bowler to pursue legal action.

The case was recently taken up before the Colombo District Court, where Sri Lanka Cricket informed court that it would file objections. The matter has been fixed for April 23. (Newswire)
