The sun will be directly overhead in several parts of Sri Lanka today (11 April) as part of its apparent northward movement, the Department of Meteorology said.
According to the department, the sun is directly over Sri Lanka’s latitudes from 5 April to 15 April this year.
The areas closest to where the sun will be overhead today at around 12:11 noon include Pomparippu, Anuradhapura, Mihinthale, Galenbindunuwewa, Agbopura and Serunuwara.
This phenomenon occurs as the sun appears to move northward relative to the Earth during this period, resulting in minimal shadows at midday in locations directly beneath the sun.
The Department of Meteorology noted that overhead sun conditions will continue to be observed in different parts of the country until 15 April. (Newswire)
