
An Indian national was arrested early today (14) by officers of the Sri Lanka Customs Narcotics Control Unit for attempting to smuggle “Kush” cannabis valued at Rs. 2.87 million into the country.
Officials said the suspect was a 24-year-old Indian national.
According to reports, he purchased the narcotics in Bangkok, Thailand, and traveled to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, before arriving at Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake on Malaysia Airlines flight MH-179.
During an inspection, officers found approximately 2 kilograms and 87 grams of “Kush” cannabis concealed within the side panels of a cardboard box in his luggage.
The suspect and the seized narcotics were handed over to the Airport Police Narcotics Bureau in Katunayake for further investigation. (Newswire)
