
Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Central, Uva and North-western provinces after 1.00 pm today (16).
According to the Department of Meteorology, a few showers may occur in the coastal areas of Western and Southern provinces and the Puttalam district in the morning.
Fairly heavy falls above 50 mm are likely at some places in the Sabaragamuwa province and in the Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts.
Mainly, fair weather will prevail over the other parts of the island.
The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers are likely at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Hambantota via Colombo, Galle and Matara.
Winds will be southwesterly or variable in direction. Wind speed will be 20-30 kmph.
The sea areas around the island will be slight. Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers. (Newswire)
