“Karandeniye Raju” detained for 72 hours after return from India: Police

Organized crime suspect known as “Karandeniye Raju,” who was arrested in India and returned to Sri Lanka, is being detained for 72 hours for further investigation, Police Media Spokesperson, Assistant Superintendent of Police F.U. Wootler said.

Addressing a media briefing, the spokesperson said that Sri Lankan courts have issued 15 warrants against the suspect.

He added that 26 overseas travel bans have also been imposed in connection with the individual.

The 43-year-old suspect, a resident of Meetiyagoda, was arrested in India with the assistance of international law enforcement authorities. He was brought to the island last night.

Police said the suspect is wanted over several serious offences, including murder, causing grievous bodily harm, robbery, and illegal arms trafficking.

The incidents are reported from Meetiyagoda, Karandeniya, Balapitiya, and other areas in the Southern Province.

Following his return to the country, further investigations are underway led by the Colombo Central Crimes Investigation Bureau. (Newswire)
