CIABOC arrests Mullaitivu hospital staff over Rs. 30,000 bribery charges

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) has arrested an accountant and a management assistant attached to the Mullaitivu District General Hospital for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 30,000.

According to CIABOC, the arrest was made following a complaint by a businessman in the area, who alleged that the payment was solicited for the release of a cheque related to a contract for washing and cleaning bed sheets at the hospital for the month of March.

The suspects, identified as an accountant and a management assistant, were arrested on April 18 at the hospital’s accounts division by CIABOC investigators.

The arrested individuals are due to be produced before the Mullaitivu Magistrate’s Court. (NewsWire)
