Sri Lanka Customs has recorded revenue of LKR 765.7 billion as of 16 April 2026, according to official data. Customs officials said this has exceeded the revenue target for the period by LKR 71.8 billion.

Sri Lanka Customs recorded its highest-ever revenue of LKR 2,557.5 billion in 2025, while it has been assigned a revenue target of LKR 2,207.0 billion for 2026.

Customs Media Spokesperson Chandana Punchihewa said that, according to terminal operators, the Middle East crisis has contributed to an increase in re-export cargo being routed through Sri Lanka, resulting in higher volumes of containers being unloaded locally before onward shipment to their final destinations.

“Containers that were originally scheduled to be shipped directly to the Middle East are now being offloaded and rerouted to their respective destinations,” he explained. (NewsWire)
